YUME FEST ANNOUNCEMENTS; DAVID E BEATS X THE WHITE HOUSE BAND

June 5th, 2010 yume No comments

David E Beats and the White House Band is a loud, captivating, and energetic Brooklyn-based band. Formed in February 2010, the band created their own genre of music “New Vouge”: a combination of Rap, Hard Rock and Blues.

The lead, David E Beats, raps honest, clever lyrics and plays heavy guitar riffs guitar simultaneously while on stage. Unlike most rappers he became a self-contained musician, by teaching himself guitar. Skilled in both, he is also great at song writing. From a Hip Hop perspective, you can compare Beats melodies to a Kid Cudi, from a Rock perspective; Beats solos are reminiscent of a psychedelic 60’s Jimmy Hendrix, while his melodies are reminiscent of a more modern Buddy Guy.

As a solo artist, Beats has been featured in MTV Music, MTV Canada, VH1, BET, XXLmag.com, AllHipHop.com, The Source.com and is entering the mtvU “The Freshmen” Contest on June 7th, 2010 (http://freshmen.mtvu.com/ )

The White House Band is comprised of Cory Lonas on bass, Fernando Martinez on guitar, and Elder Merchant on drums. Fernando aka “Sexy Solo” has highly emotive solos that accent the songs and resonates well with the audience. His style combines the brute force of heavy metal with the technicality of Jazz. Cory, Mr Galactic Panel, the bassist, has a whole bag of tricks and does more than play in the pocket. He plays bass with a heavy hand, loves to use effects pedals to put a little grit in the audience teeth when he plays. He has the most far out sounds imaginable and can compete with any guitarist in a solo. Elder, “Crazy Drummer” is the loudest of the four; the band is turning up to match Elders energy. Using 4 cymbals and crashes, his playing is meant more for an arena than a club! Watching David E Beats and The White House Band perform live is a unique experience, a total musical revolution!

The band has headlined the first DIY Bushwick Music Festival, performing in alternative Do-It-Yourself spaces. They opened the festival with a performance at Bushwick Music Studios and closed it with a performance at House of Yes to a packed house. The band has also performed at R. Bar, Kenny’s Castaways, The Delancey, Jebon, Alphabet Lounge, The Local 269, House of Yes, Drom, University of Maryland College Park Radio, Public Assembly, and CV Lounge.
Among their music influences, the band lists Black Sabbath, Miles Davis, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Buddy Rich, Metallica, and Guitar players like Eric Johnson, Marty Friedman, Jimmy Page and of course Hendrix.

David E Beats x The White House Band are currently recording a new project.

YUME FEST ANNOUNCEMENTS; ERIC SOSA JOINS THE LINE UP

June 3rd, 2010 yume No comments

His music speaks for itself and to the masses. As a result of an insatiable dedication to self-reinvention and learning the ins –and-outs of the entertainment industry, the young Queens MC has virtually mastered the art of rhetoric, and epitomizes lyrical confidence and skill, with a range and timeless feel not displayed by many artists today.

A musician by the age of 6, Eric Sosa’s first love of music came from being a percussionist in a marching band, where he would rise to the rank of lead snare by the age of 7. Despite his life-long affinity to rhythm, percussion did not allow him to verbalize his musical expression, and at the age of 10 he began incorporating words into his love of rhythm.

In 2007, Sosa released his first mix-tape “Let the Pete Rock”, an ode to the classic era of hip hop, where he displays his natural lyrical abilities over Pete Rock instrumentals. Since then, Sosa has virtually been taking over the New York City underground scene blessing the stage at popular venues such as, Santos Party House, Bowery Poetry Club, The Delancey, Public Assembly, Europa, TNY, Tropicana, Mi Gentes & Nuves, and has been privileged to open for comedians affiliated with HBO, BET & Showtime.

With the release of his second mixtape, Rhyme & Noodles: No Artificial Flavoring Vol. 1, in 2010, Eric Sosa still maintains his classic hip hop sound but also gives a glimpse of the future of hip hop, showing his true range and versatility not just as a hip hop artist, but as a writer, musician and performer. “The idea for “Rhyme & Noodles” was inspired by the times we are living in. Less has become enough,” says Sosa, and he delivers just enough to satisfy listener’s hunger until the full meal, his debut album.

Rhyme & Noodles consists of 7 tracks and can be fully downloaded at EricSosa.com. The first single, “Do Something freestyle,” which Sosa also released his first music video for, features a candid freestyle over the Macy Gray track “Do something.” The snippet of “One You,” the second single and an Eric Sosa original, features R&B artist Rocki Evans, and will be released in April. The project also includes guest appearances from Mayo on “One Night” and Chaundon on the track “Superglue.”

Never fearful of trying something new, Eric Sosa has managed to create a name for himself during an era where hip hop has become overly-commercialized. As Sosa himself said, he’s “just a Spanish rapper from Queens, that’s trying to escape reality, but trapped in a dream.” That very dream that encompasses him is well underway to becoming a reality. What listeners truly have on their hands is a legend in the making.
